NTE Beginner Guide — Your First Week in Neverness to Everness
Welcome to the city
Neverness to Everness is an anime-style urban-fantasy action RPG with gacha character collection. Combat is real-time and team-based: you bring three characters into every fight and swap between them, combining elements and roles to break enemies down. This guide covers the systems that matter in your first week — and the resource traps that hurt new players the most.
The two classification systems
Every character belongs to two taxonomies, and beginners constantly confuse them:
Esper types (elements) — there are six: Anima (灵), Chaos (暗), Cosmos (光), Incantation (咒), Lakshana (相), and Psyche (魂). Elements drive reactions and team synergy; some buffers like Haniel specifically enable Chaos-element teammates.
Class types (matter states) — Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma, Synthesis. These determine Arc Disc compatibility, the equipment system you’ll engage with as you progress. You don’t need to master this in week one, but know that class type is not the same as element.
Separately, every character fills one of three roles: Damage, Buff, or Survival. A balanced team usually runs one of each.
Rarity: S-Rank vs A-Rank
NTE uses S-Rank and A-Rank — not SSR/SR. S-Ranks are the headline units, but A-Ranks are genuinely competitive: Haniel (A-Rank buffer) is best-in-slot for Chaos teams, and Edgar (A-Rank healer) will carry your survivability for the entire early game. Don’t dismiss A-Rank pulls.
Your first team
You receive Esper Zero (S-Rank, Cosmos, Damage) through the story — she is free, meta-viable, and should be your first investment. From there:
- If you pull Sakiri or Hotori (S-Rank buffers): build them immediately. Buffers are the highest-value units in the game and never leave your roster.
- If you pull Chiz or Nanally: you have a premium carry — funnel resources into them.
- Edgar will be your healer until you pull Iroi, Fadia, or Adler. He works at level 1 with zero investment.
The classic free-to-play core is Esper Zero + Sakiri (or any buffer) + Edgar, and it clears the entire story.
How banners work
There are two kinds of character banners. The standard banner permanently features the 15 launch characters — Esper Zero, Nanally, Sakiri, Jiuyuan, Chiz, Hathor, Baicang, Daffodill, Fadia, Haniel, Adler, Mint, Aurelia, Skia, and Edgar. Limited banners feature time-exclusive units — Chaos, Shinku, and Iroi so far — who do not join the standard pool and only return on reruns.
The rule that saves accounts: never spend limited currency on the standard banner. Hoard for limited units; the standard pool comes to you for free over time.
Mistakes that waste your first week
- Spreading resources across six characters. The upgrade economy is brutal. Pick one carry, one buffer, one healer, and ignore everything else until they’re built.
- Pulling standard banners with limited currency. See above. It is the single most common new-player disaster.
- Ignoring buffers for damage dealers. A buffed B-tier team out-damages an unbuffed SS-tier roster. Sakiri and Hotori are the best pulls in the game for a reason.
- Skipping dodging practice. NTE punishes face-tanking. Learn the dodge-counter windows early — characters like Daffodill turn perfect dodges into free damage.
